GOAL

To increase email marketing revenue share by increasing revenue per email, customer retention, and order rate.

STRATEGIES & EXECUTION

INTEREST-BASED SEGMENTATION

I created genre-specific segments and used it in flows and campaigns. The idea was to recommend similar products to users based on their purchase history.

This means if someone bought a Metallica t-shirt, they're more likely to be a fan of rock music and is more likely to buy a t-shirt from a rock band.

PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS

I used the order confirmation, shipping confirmation, and order follow-up flows to recommend products that the user might be interested in. The product recommendations were based on users' browse history, purchase history, and the overall top-selling products on Jungle Merch.

This meant the users get relevant, personalized product suggestions. On top of that, purchase notification email flows also brought potential to add revenue.

LIST CLEANING

I cleaned the email list and suppressed the inactive users. Since we migrated from Omnisend to Klaviyo, and the domain IP was still going through the warm-up process, it was essential to send emails to the engaged audience.

This meant we sent emails only to those recipients who were interested, thereby increasing open and click rates. Also, by suppressing the list, we would no longer pay Klaviyo for an audience that didn't bring much value.

RELENTLESS A/B TESTING

I believe if we don't test and compare a strategy, we will not know what performs better. The forms, flows, subject lines, delays, splits, and call-to-actions are always put on A/B tests.

Even minor improvements through A/B tests have a compounding effect on the long-term email marketing strategy.

EFFECTIVE ANALYSIS, MONITORING, AND REPORTING

Peter Drucker famously said, “If you can't measure it, you can't manage it.” Being a data-nerd, I analyze and report metrics beyond Klaviyo's usual analytics dashboard. I focus on metrics like revenue per email sent and order rate.

This meant our email marketing performance reporting was unaffected by the change in website traffic, ad spends or high/low seasons. More effective insights into campaign performance by using the right metrics led to a more informed decision-making process.

EMAIL TEMPLATE REDESIGN

Before I started working on the project, the email templates were non-uniform. I redesigned them from scratch and made sure that all elements (header, footer, social icons, main content) follow the same format.

This meant the users could identify with the brand design and tone, and subconsciously develop a familiarity and connection with Jungle Merch.

RESULTS

📈 2.8X REVENUE PER EMAIL

The revenue generated per email sent through Klaviyo was $0.54 in December 2022 before I started working on the project. Revenue per email jumped to $1.19 for the month of January and then to $1.51 for February.

This means that the emails flows and campaigns are nearly 3 times more effective than 2 months back.

🌱 36% GROWTH IN ORDER RATE

The placed order rate from campaigns increased from 0.44% to 0.60% in two months. This indicates the subscribers found the email campaigns more relevant and were more inclined to place an order.

💥 192% INCREASE IN CAMPAIGN REVENUE RATE

The campaign revenue rate (revenue per email) saw a growth from 24 cents per email to 70 cents per email.

This means email marketing contributed more to the overall revenue with almost the same fixed costs.
